How to Erase Chalk Markers

Crafty Croc Liquid Chalk Markers can be erased easily on non-porous surfaces. To erase them, a damp cloth is usually all it takes. However, on porous surfaces (non-erasable), some of the pigment can get absorbed, causing a shadow to be left behind when removed. This is true of all liquid chalk on the market. If you've experienced this, here are some ideas to help:

  1. Use a Magic Eraser to clean the surface. These work wonders but can remove some painted surfaces, so please test first.
  2. Use a baby wipe. These also work well and are somewhat less aggressive than Magic Erasers.
  3. Use an ammonia-based cleaning solution such as NEOPlex Chalkboard Cleaner. Some customers find Windex works just as well.

Please test any of these cleaning techniques in a small area first as all surfaces react differently to these solutions and we don't want any damage to occur.

It is important to note that chalkboards vary significantly in their composition and although many people use these markers successfully on many types of chalkboards without shadowing, this is not always the case. Some people periodically apply a new coat of chalkboard paint to freshen it up and breath new life into the chalkboard or coat their chalkboard in a clear dry erase coating which seals the board. The sealer is clear so you don't see it but allows the markers to come off cleanly.
